The roots of the muffs I create reach deep into my education and my work as a researcher. Over decades of practical experience in education and care, I’ve had the privlege to walk alongside others, to listen and to meet them on a personal level.That’s why I know that sometimes a small detail like a familiar color, a beloved animal, or a soft texture can open a door to memories, comfort, and connection.

Knowledge and Encounter as Dimensions of Design

Each muff is crafted with heart, but also guided by knowledge. The needs of neurodivergent individuals, the world of those living with memory disorders, and sensory sensitivities shape my choices of textures, colors, and forms. I’ve worked closely with people with dementia, autism, or ADHD. These everyday encounters have taught me how important it is to pay attention to words, but also to gestures, expressions, and silent wishes. A muff is not just an object. It’s a message: You matter. You are seen.

A Decade-Long Journey in Muffs making

The story of Alisa Sensory Muffs didn’t start overnight. I’ve been making sensory muffs for over ten years. Over the years their form has evolved from fidget muffs into multi-sensory sensory muffs and memory muffs. This product development has been a continuous process of learning, experimenting, and listening. More than 300 muffs have been created over the years, each one a testament to the idea that every detail matters and every muff carries its own story.

Handcraft That Nurtures

In my studio in Oulu, handmade memories come to life. A horse’s silhouette, a collie’s gaze, a red thread that remains visible even when the rest of the world fades. Every stitch I knit and every seam I sew carries a story. Sometimes they speak of childhood, sometimes of love, sometimes of quiet hope.
