What is a Sensory muff?
Sensory muff is a knitted, crocheted or sewn muff with tassels, buttons, beads, ribbons, tassels, crocheted, woven or sewn pom poms, animal figures and/or flowers attached to both the outside and inside, crocheting soft coated bottle caps with something that rattles inside. When it comes to designing muffs, the only limit is your imagination.

The target groups of the sensory muffs are e.g. people with memory disease, autistic and visually impaired people and people with adhd. Sensory muffs have also been used in storytime lessons to make it easier for children to focus on listening. How does the sensory muff work?
A sensory muff provides activity for hands accustomed to movement, calms the user, helps with concentration, brings joy and comfort, and evokes memories while stimulating the senses. The yarns, shapes, and decorations of the muff activate the sense of touch and also provide stimuli for sight and hearing. Additionally, the muff warms cold hands that may suffer from poor circulation.
There is research evidence supporting the positive effects of sensory muffs. However, Alisa Designs' sensory muffs are not just about tactile stimulation—they engage multiple senses. The muffs feature numerous details that can be felt and seen. Many muffs also include elements that jingle, rustle, or snap, stimulating the sense of hearing. Some examples include bells, crocheted bottle caps with beads inside to create a rattle, crocheted lids from baby food jars that can be snapped, and a crinkly piece of roasting bag hidden between fabric layers. Additionally, some muffs have pockets where users can place a tissue scented with their favorite perfume or essential oil, or even a small treat. Due to the multi-channel sensory experiences, I prefer to call the muffs 'sensory muffs' rather than 'fidget muffs'.

Care and Cleaning Instructions:
- The muff can be washed in the washing machine at 40°C/104°F.
- Place the muff in the laundry bag before putting it in the machine.
- Air dry afterward.
Craftsmanship and Safety:
- Crafted with love and care, the muff ensures both durability and comfort.
- Muffs are made taking into account the fact that they must not have parts that can come off when twiddling. For example, buttons or beads are not suitable for everyone's muffs and if they are used, they should be well fastened.
- In our muff collection there are muffs with no buttons or beads as embellishments, making it safe for individuals who might otherwise detach and ingest such items.
