🌿What is a sensory muff?
A sensory muff is a is a soft, multi-sensory hand warmer that offers restless or active hands something to do. Each muff is carefully knitted, crocheted or sewn, and uses different surfaces, shapes and details that activate the senses of touch, sight and sometimes hearing.
A sensory muff can:
- calm the mind
- support concentration
- bring joy and comfort
- awaken memories
- warm hands
According to studies, sensory muffs can support well-being and emotional regulation.
💛Who are sensory muffs suitable for?
Sensory muffs are widely used, for example:

🔔How do sensory muffs work
A sensory muff gives hands that are used to activity something gentle to do. It can calm, help focus, bring joy and comfort, and evoke memories. The muff's soft threads, shapes, and decorations activate the sense of touch and also provide stimulation through the senses of sight and hearing. In addition, the muff warms hands that are easily cold due to poor blood circulation. There is also research evidence of the positive effects of sensory muffs.
However, Alisa Designs' muffs are not just fidget muffs. They are designed to offer a multi-sensory experience, in which the sense of touch is only one part of the whole. That is why I often also call my muffs sensory muffs and memory muffs.

The sensory muff emphasizes that the muff provides stimulation for multiple senses at the same time. Many muffs have details that you can:
- feel (soft threads, embossed patterns, different surfaces)
- look (color schemes, landscapes, characters, small details)

However, it is also a good idea to consider safety when choosing. Not all details are suitable for all users. For example, buttons, beads, and other removable parts can be a risk for people who have a tendency to remove or put objects in their mouths. That is why my selection also includes muffs that do not contain any small parts at all, as well as options where the sensory elements are implemented in completely safe ways.
